It’s National Astronaut Day, and we couldn’t think of a better moment to share this hidden gem from our archives!
Libraries are full of surprises—sometimes even out of this world ones. This photo of James Irwin, the 8th person to walk on the Moon, has quietly lived in our historical collection for decades. Then one day, while sorting through old files, there it was—rediscovered like a time capsule, still just as awe-inspiring as the day it arrived.
Irwin wasn’t just an astronaut—he was a test pilot, aeronautical engineer, and Lunar Module pilot for Apollo 15, the fourth human lunar landing. And yes… take a closer look at the little note on the side. 👀 Can you read that? (We’re geeking out a little, and we’re not sorry.)
