History came alive at the library last night during a fascinating presentation by Dave Baker of The 29th State.
A special thank you to Dave Baker of The 29th State for his outstanding first-person presentation as Civil War soldier George Cruikshank. His storytelling made history come alive as he shared information about the 17th Iowa Infantry, Company G from Marion County, Governor William Milo Stone, the Battle of the Ironclads, Sibley tents, mapmaking, emancipation, Abraham Lincoln, and the everyday experiences of Civil War soldiers.
From hardtack and salt beef to coach and train travel, every detail painted a vivid picture of the past. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Iowa history and learn more about those who came before us.
If you missed the presentation, don’t worry! Dave Baker’s new book, More Than Waypoints, is now available to view at the Webb Shadle Public Library. It offers a sneak peek at many of the fascinating projects and historical research Dave has been working on and is a great way to continue exploring the stories and history he shared during the program.
