Hear about a part of Iowa history that many did not know existed on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 6 pm at the Webb Shadle Memorial Library. Linda Betsinger McCann will speak about her newest book: “Prisoners of War in Iowa”. During WWII there were approximately 25,000 German, Italian and Japanese prisoners of war in Iowa. Algona and Clarinda were the main camps, with 17 branch camps where prisoners worked on a short-term project. Linda was able to speak with people who had them work on their farms, or got to know them, and she shares these memories.
