Geocaching at Webb Shadle: Find the “Shadle Log”
Since 2023, Webb Shadle Public Library has proudly hosted its own geocache — the Shadle Log — as part of a global treasure hunt known as geocaching.
Whether you’re a seasoned explorer or trying geocaching for the first time, this is a fun, family-friendly activity that blends outdoor adventure with modern technology.
What Is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a worldwide, GPS-guided scavenger hunt where participants use a smartphone or GPS device to locate hidden containers called “geocaches.” Each cache contains a logbook and sometimes small tradeable items. There are thousands hidden across the country — including one right here at the library.
How to Participate
- Create a free account at Geocaching.com or download the Geocaching app.
- Search for local geocaches near Pleasantville, Iowa.
- Use your phone or GPS device to navigate to the cache’s location.
- Locate the hidden container on the library grounds.
- Open the cache, sign the logbook with your geocaching username, and reseal it securely.
- Log your find in the app or on the website to track your progress and share your experience.
