SUMMARY:Renaissance Science\, Magic\, and Medicine in Harry Potter's World
DESCRIPTION:This traveling banner exhibition was developed and produced by the Exhibition Program at the National Library of Medicine\nIn 1997\, British author J. K. Rowling introduced the world to Harry Potter and a literary phenomenon was born. Millions of readers have followed Harry to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he discovers his heritage\, encounters new plants and animals\, and perfects his magical abilities. Although a fantasy story\, the magic in the Harry Potter books is partially based on Renaissance traditions that played an important role in the development of Western science\, including alchemy\, astrology\, and natural philosophy.\nThis exhibition\, using materials from the National Library of Medicine\, explores Harry Potter’s world\, its roots in Renaissance science\, and the ethical questions that affected not only the wizards of Harry Potter\, but also the historical thinkers featured in the series.\nThis exhibition is brought to you by the National Library of Medicine\, National Institutes of Health.\nCurated by Elizabeth J. Bland and historian and educator Mark A Waddell\, PhD (Michigan State University)\nThis exhibit will be on display throughout the library from January 17th through February 25th at the Webb Shadle Public Library during regular business hours.

DESCRIPTION:Hey Builders! \nBe a part of the March Lego Madness Fundraiser at Webb Shadle! During the month of March\, we’re going to display your favorite Lego builds. Builds can be from a kit or your own creation. Children\, teens\, and adults are all encouraged to display any Lego builds that they are proud of and that brings them joy. \nAnd…there are prizes\, sponsored by Bill Harvey Construction! First place will receive a $25 gift card and second place will receive a $15 gift card. \nDrop off your creations anytime the library is open from March 1st to March 25th. The community can vote for their favorites by dropping their loose change donations into the containers next to the builds during that same period.  Votes will be tabulated on April 1st. ONE DISPLAY PER PARTICIPANT. \n  \n
